Fire Engulfs Takkion Plant in Gadsden; Incident Under Control
A fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Takkion plant, the former Goodyear facility located in Gadsden, Alabama. Emergency services received the alarm around 5:30 a.m., and fire crews quickly responded to the industrial complex on Meighan Boulevard. By 8 a.m., firefighters had successfully contained the blaze, which was situated in the Banberries section of the plant.
Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford confirmed via social media that no injuries had been reported as of the latest updates. Fire departments from nearby communities assisted in the firefighting efforts, with approximately 15 to 20 trucks on the scene. Gadsden Fire Chief Vance Brown noted that firefighters were still on-site managing lingering hot spots.
Battalion Chief Lecil Harrelson described the challenges posed by the structure’s older, heavy timber construction, stating, “It’s hard for us to get in there and get the fire out.” He emphasized safety concerns regarding access for firefighters and indicated plans to send investigative personnel once conditions are stable to ascertain the fire’s cause.
The Takkion facility is currently utilized for solar panel storage, adding significance to the incident’s surroundings. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to assess the situation fully.
